Does the PCI Express Docking Station (Dock1-EB) need special drivers?
Installation is normally automatic and only requires the drivers already in your operating system. No changes need to be made to your PCI-e card drivers.
Which operating systems are supported?
a) WindowsXP and Vista
b) Mac OS X
c) Linux - not at present
d) Note OS/2 is not supported.
Which type of Notebooks run with the PCI Express Docking Station?
All notebooks (including Apple MacBook Pro), manufactured with an ExpressCard interface. This interface is something that has only appeared over the last couple of years, obtaining a new notebook PC with this interface is now becoming easy as a standard item.
Which type of PCI-Express cards work in the Docking Stations?
It is impossible to test every PCI-e board, however if it works in a standard PC it should operate fine in a Docking Station. For external graphics applications, we recommend using notebook PC's with ATI graphics technology paired with an ATI graphics card inside the Docking Station.
How long is the interface cable between PCI-Docking Station and Notebook?
1.0 metre as standard. A cable of 0.5, 1.5m and 3.0m is available on request and can be substituted for the standard one at time of order (at reduced cost) or ordered separately later. A greater length than 3.0m is not possible.
What about data transfer rate. How fast is it?
Data transfers are 250Mbyte/second, the maximum speed for single lane PCI-Express bus. Any reduction is this speed will be from the installed PCI-e card its drivers and the application software. Whilst it might be possible to do a 250MB/sec burst transfer, more typically 150 to 170 MBytes/sec is attainable
Can I take the notebooks battery and power the PCI-Docking Station with it?
Sorry no AC operation only. (You could use a high capacity 12V battery and DC to AC inverter however, available from many electrical stores and some car accessory shops).
In which way is the driver installed on Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X?
Simply install your card make connection and power up the Docking Station before the PC. Occasionally with Windows XP download of drivers is required from our Web site for correct operation. http://www.dqsolutions.co.uk/support.htm
How long can the PCI Express boards be?
The PCIe-Docking Station series supports boards to up to full length (312mm). Some full-length boards come with a plastic support bracket which adds to their length and normally held with two screws, this will require removing. The Docking Station has its own support system.
I would like to be sure it will work with my board, can I try out a unit?
Yes, you can return the unit within 14 days for any reason it proves unsuitable for a refund or exchange. Beyond this the standard 1 year warranty applies. We just ask that the unit is returned with its original packing and is not damaged in any way.
