FIFO Mode

image showing data transfer rates to RAM and hard drive

The FIFO mode is used to record data continuously in the PC memory (RAM) or on to the hard disk. Therefore the board memory is divided in two memory channels. The length of the memory channels programmable. The data transfer is done by the driver in answer to a hardware interrupt with rates dependent on PC performance. The rates in the above illustration are achievable by many PC's. Using the new SATA hard drives it is now possible to exceed 25 MB/s transfer, approaching 40 MB/s with good quaility drives

Recording of data starts with the trigger event and runs until the stop command is set or an error occurs. The FIFO mode may be combined with Multiple Recording as well as with Gated Sampling for full capture control.
